Councilman Jim Wood to Speak at May General Meeting

City Councilman Jim Wood will headline the program for our general meeting of members on Thursday, May 18 at 7:30 PM.  Councilman Wood lives in King’s Grant and represents the Lynnhaven District on the City Council.  He has served since first elected in 2002.  He has deep roots in our neighborhood – graduating from Princess Anne High School and later serving as a Virginia Beach Police Officer.  The many roles he serves in city government include leadership in transportation initiatives, flood prevention, and technology.  Councilman Wood is an annual guest at our KGCL meetings.  He will provide remarks about major topics that are being tackled by the city government, and he will take questions from members.  Mark your calendar and plan to attend.  Our meeting begins at 7:30pm at King’s Grant Elementary School.

General Meeting Thursday

The King’s Grant Community League (KGCL) will hold its first general meeting of the new membership year at 7:30 PM in the King’s Grant Elementary School auditorium on Thursday, October 20th.   All members and prospective members are invited to attend.

Our guest speaker for the event is Mr. J.D. Bannigan, the Real Estate Assessor for the city of Virginia Beach.  He will speak about the assessment process, what drives changes (that ultimately show up in your real estate tax bill), and will answer questions from the audience.  Mr. Bannigan is a lifelong resident of Virginia Beach.  He graduated from Princess Anne High School and attended Virginia Tech where he earned a Bachelor degree in Business Administration.  Later, he earned a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Old Dominion University.  Mr. Bannigan joined the Real Estate Assessor’s Office in 1972 and has held his current position as the city’s Real Estate Assessor since 1983.  For certain, Mr. Bannigan has seen many changes in real estate values during his career of public service.  He is a member of the American Society of Appraisers and currently lives just down the road in Thalia.  For the past ten days, he has been actively engaged in the city’s response to the serious flooding that occurred in some of our nearby communities.

In addition to our program, the KGCL Officers and Directors will report on what lies ahead for the year ahead, and we will approve our 2016-2017 budget.  Our Virginia Beach Police Department community liaison officer is also scheduled to attend and will be available to answer any questions.

Please come join us.
