Results of Recent Speed Study on King’s Grant Road

In response to concerns raised by members at the last two General meetings, City of Virginia Beach, Traffic Engineering Division conducted a speed study on King’s Grant Road, Tuesday, March 26 through Monday April 1.

KGCL received the report data, analyzed the results and published them for members, residents and the public. Our complete results are online at the following address:

Yard Sale Update

You’ve probably seen the signs.

Our third annual community yard sale is set for Saturday, May 4! (Rain date Sat., May 11)

The first and second yard sales were big hits and good for the neighborhood by all accounts. Our neighbors at Citgo & 7-11 appreciate a little boost in business. 7-11 even made a $150 donation this year to KGCL. Prince of Peace Lutheran Church is generous each year with their parking lot. Our community yard sale is a great way to use our open space.

Our yard sale is advertised in the neighborhood, at local businesses, our web site and in The Virginian-Pilot print & online classifieds.

Reservations are required and have sold out both years prior. Show your support by reserving a booth and sending food & beverage donations for our modest concessions stand.

Make reservations or offer concessions by email: yardsale@kgcl.org or by phone: 757-404-3503.

Meeting Agenda, See You Thursday!

There’s been some miscommunication on our part about the meeting Thursday. We *are* meeting Thursday at King’s Grant Elementary School. No formal business will be conducted. The purpose of the meeting Thursday is to bring members together to:

  • Share stories from the 50 year history KGCL and the neighborhood
  • Share news & announcements
  • Discuss improvement project ideas
  • Discuss format of meetings and ways to improve members’ engagement

Here is a sneak peek at photos from the archives: Witt Park Renovation Project

The meeting agenda is located online: click here.

The next meeting of General Members is

Thursday, October 18th, 7:30 PM

at King’s Grant Elementary School.

This is a budget meeting. The 2012-2013 budget will be presented and a vote will be taken to approve or reject the budget. The budget can be read in advance, online (click here). To request an advance copy of the budget in a different format email president@kgcl.org. KGCL President Kevin Curry will also present priorities for the year for comment. Priorities can be read in advance, online (click here).

If you would like to ask Councilmember Wood a question please attend and submit a written question in person. Or you may email your question to president@kgcl.org.

The Community Yard Sale Is Back!

Spring is here and so is the King’s Grant Community Yard Sale! The planning and work for our Spring Yard Sale is under way. The sale will be on Saturday, May 5, 2012, 8AM – 1PM at the Triangle, as it was last year, with a rain date of May 12th.

We learned a lot from your suggestions and this year we will provide bigger booths, a portable toilet and better organization. In order to escape permits and expenses imposed by the city, we must adhere to certain guidelines. There can’t be any type of entertainment or sale of any goods not found at garage sales, including home built or grown items or items purchased for re-sale. So, gather all of that stuff you don’t use any-more and exchange it for cash.

You have an opportunity to get your space reserved before all of the booths are taken. Last year, because of a lack of space, we had to turn away people who wanted to sell their items.

The tremendous success of last year’s sale makes us believe the booths will go fast. We have limited number available so make your plans and your reservation early. Members are being asked to pay $5.00 for their booth. Non-members will be charged $15.00 for a space. Again this year, you can bring your own table or rent one from us for $10.00. If you want to have your booth next to a friend or neighbor, please let us know as early as possible and we’ll try and honor your request. As a member of the league, you can pay
on the day of the sale.

Make your reservation by calling or e-mailing Lev Huntington. (757-434-8897) (Levhunt@verizon.net)

Request for Bid: Lawn Service

lawn

UPDATE: THIS WAS AWARDED & CLOSED

We need a lawn service to cut the Triangle and trim our other properties, Witt Park and the Lynnhaven River access on Watergate lane. Edging and occasional removal of light debris is also needed. To address these needs we are publishing this informal request for bids from local companies. All bidders are welcome, but preference is for a company with ties to King’s Grant. We request a yearly maintenance plan and cost. Lowest cost is a significant factor. Bidders must provide proof of insurance.

Basic requirements are:

  • One (1) mowing every ten (10) days from April through October
  • Mowing as needed from November through March
  • Edging on curbs
  • Debris removal as needed

To respond, send a proposal to board@kgcl.org. Bidders may be invited to give a presentation at a Board of Directors meeting. KGCL will consider advertisement in exchange for discounted rates. Advertisement may include one or more of: placement in our newsletter, on our Web site, or a small, street visible sign reading “Lawn Care Provided By: [YOUR COMPANY]” at one or more locations.

Members are encouraged to share this post with any lawn service providers they know.
