Zoning News

Our new Zoning Director, Steve Nimitz has been busy. Through Steve we’ve learned that King’s Grant House has new construction management on site. Steve has connected with the new representatives to ensure that our concerns about the King’s Grant Wall are conveyed to the new leadership. We requested that lighting be restored and we monitor construction for potential impact on the wall. The new construction managers expressed their willingness to continue working with KGCL.

Steve also reported at the board meeting that:

Results of Recent Speed Study on King’s Grant Road

In response to concerns raised by members at the last two General meetings, City of Virginia Beach, Traffic Engineering Division conducted a speed study on King’s Grant Road, Tuesday, March 26 through Monday April 1.

KGCL received the report data, analyzed the results and published them for members, residents and the public. Our complete results are online at the following address:

Yard Sale Update

You’ve probably seen the signs.

Our third annual community yard sale is set for Saturday, May 4! (Rain date Sat., May 11)

The first and second yard sales were big hits and good for the neighborhood by all accounts. Our neighbors at Citgo & 7-11 appreciate a little boost in business. 7-11 even made a $150 donation this year to KGCL. Prince of Peace Lutheran Church is generous each year with their parking lot. Our community yard sale is a great way to use our open space.

Our yard sale is advertised in the neighborhood, at local businesses, our web site and in The Virginian-Pilot print & online classifieds.

Reservations are required and have sold out both years prior. Show your support by reserving a booth and sending food & beverage donations for our modest concessions stand.

Make reservations or offer concessions by email: yardsale@kgcl.org or by phone: 757-404-3503.

Bike Lane Proposal for King’s Grant Road

Mr. Wayne Wilcox from Parks and Recreation will return to discuss a proposal to establish a bike lane on King’s Grant Road. City of Virginia Beach Public Works, Traffic Management Division recently contacted KGCL to inquire about the meeting and share information. TMD was invited to attend the meeting. They are soliciting questions in advance from members. As a property owner affected by any bike lane proposal on King’s Grant Road, King’s Grant Community League will establish a formal position on the proposal. Members’ input is welcome. Send your questions and comments to president@kgcl.org or phone Kevin Curry at 757-613-8158.

Meet The Beacon

The Beacon is covering the story of our 50th anniversary. They would like to interview members and residents about KGCL at the meeting. Please tell your friends and neighbors. The meeting will feature a display of pictures, documents and stories from our archives. Come see how Witt Park came to be and share your stories with The Beacon.

Great Meeting Tonight!

New faces. Engaged people. We heard zoning updates for the sidewalk on N. Lynnhaven Rd & King’s Grant House. Among the remaining work on the sidewalk is the completion of a pedestrian crossing at the intersection with King’s Grant Road. A letter of thanks was sent to Lynnhaven Masonic Lodge #220. Other correspondence was shared with members. Officer D.J. Peyer from 3rd precinct joined us and was helpful in answering members’ questions about vandalism & speeding, particularly on King’s Grant Road. We met our new VBCCO representatives. We shared pictures and stories from the archives. Don’t miss the next meeting on March 21st!

Meeting Agenda, See You Thursday!

There’s been some miscommunication on our part about the meeting Thursday. We *are* meeting Thursday at King’s Grant Elementary School. No formal business will be conducted. The purpose of the meeting Thursday is to bring members together to:

  • Share stories from the 50 year history KGCL and the neighborhood
  • Share news & announcements
  • Discuss improvement project ideas
  • Discuss format of meetings and ways to improve members’ engagement

Here is a sneak peek at photos from the archives: Witt Park Renovation Project

Share Your Stories

On September 28, 2012 King’s Grant Community League marked 50 years of organization. This notable achievement is serving as our theme for the 2012-2013 membership year.  This year we’d like to share your stories about KGCL.

Do you have old pictures or documents of league activities or of the early days of the neighborhood? Are there members no longer with us who you’d like to commemorate?

We’d like to create a display for our January and May meetings of General Members. Here are ways you can help:

  • Email digital photos and stories to info@kgcl.org
  • Email info@kgcl.org or call Kevin at 757-613-8158 to arrange for pick-up & drop off of paper archives or to share stories
  • Come to the January and May meetings and share stories in person and see the display

The next meeting of General Members is January 17th, 7:30 PM at King’s Grant Elementary school.
