Bike Lane Proposal for King’s Grant Road, Yard Sale & Other Reasons to Come to the March Meeting

Our next meeting of General Members on Thursday, March 21st at 7:30 PM is sure to be of interest to all KGCL members and many residents of the neighborhood. Please share this information with your neighbors.

Bike Lane Proposal for King’s Grant Road

Mr. Wayne Wilcox from Parks and Recreation will return to discuss a proposal to establish a bike lane on King’s Grant Road. City of Virginia Beach Public Works, Traffic Management Division recently contacted KGCL to inquire about the meeting and share information. TMD was invited to attend the meeting. They are soliciting questions in advance from members. As a property owner affected by any bike lane proposal on King’s Grant Road, King’s Grant Community League will establish a formal position on the proposal. Members’ input is welcome. Send your questions and comments to president@kgcl.org or phone Kevin Curry at 757-613-8158.

Meet The Beacon

The Beacon is covering the story of our 50th anniversary. They would like to interview members and residents about KGCL at the meeting. Please tell your friends and neighbors. The meeting will feature a display of pictures, documents and stories from our archives. Come see how Witt Park came to be and share your stories with The Beacon.

Community Yard Sale

The annual community yard sale is back for a third year! Save the date Saturday, May 4 (rain date Sat., May 11). We’ll share important dates and information. The meeting is great an opportunity to reserve your booth! To inquire by email: yardsale@kgcl.org. To inquire by phone: 757-404-3503.

The Community Yard Sale Is Back!

Spring is here and so is the King’s Grant Community Yard Sale! The planning and work for our Spring Yard Sale is under way. The sale will be on Saturday, May 5, 2012, 8AM – 1PM at the Triangle, as it was last year, with a rain date of May 12th.

We learned a lot from your suggestions and this year we will provide bigger booths, a portable toilet and better organization. In order to escape permits and expenses imposed by the city, we must adhere to certain guidelines. There can’t be any type of entertainment or sale of any goods not found at garage sales, including home built or grown items or items purchased for re-sale. So, gather all of that stuff you don’t use any-more and exchange it for cash.

You have an opportunity to get your space reserved before all of the booths are taken. Last year, because of a lack of space, we had to turn away people who wanted to sell their items.

The tremendous success of last year’s sale makes us believe the booths will go fast. We have limited number available so make your plans and your reservation early. Members are being asked to pay $5.00 for their booth. Non-members will be charged $15.00 for a space. Again this year, you can bring your own table or rent one from us for $10.00. If you want to have your booth next to a friend or neighbor, please let us know as early as possible and we’ll try and honor your request. As a member of the league, you can pay
on the day of the sale.

Make your reservation by calling or e-mailing Lev Huntington. (757-434-8897) (Levhunt@verizon.net)

KGCL Properties: Preserving Open Space and Access

Did you know that King’s Grant Community League owns three (3) properties? They are:

  1. The Triangle
  2. Witt Park
  3. Lynnhaven River Canoe & Kayak Launch

We own and maintain these properties to preserve open space, provide access to the Lynnhaven River and our lakes, and hold events like the community yard sale.

There’s a new menu item called “Maps” that shows where our properties are located:

Community Yard Sale Sets Precedent

Saturday, May 7th, King’s Grant Community League held is first ever (or least as long as anyone can remember) community yard sale. The event was put on by the KGCL Board of Directors through an ad hoc committee organized by Lev Huntington, Treasurer. By all accounts the yard sale was well received by the community and a big success all around. The event ran from 8 AM until 2 PM. All 38 spaces reserved for the event were used, with the majority taken by league members to sell and trade household goods. Some sellers brought plants and flowers. Others brought hand made items. Face painting was popular with the kids at $1 each. Concessions were also served all day. Camaraderie among everyone was apparent.

The KGCL Board of Directors would like to thank Prince of Peace Church for sharing their parking lot. Thanks also go to King’s Grant 7-11 and King’s Grant Citgo for their neighborly cooperation. There was certainly an abundance of activity at The Triangle. Our hope is that community events held in our open spaces will demonstrate that King’s Grant is a vibrant, healthy community and will create opportunities for the residents of King’s Grant and surrounding neighborhoods to come together in good spirit.

We’re always interested in what you have to say. Share your feedback about the yard sale. Did you like it? Not like it? Was it good for the community? What would you like to see at a future KGCL yard sale? Are you interested in joining the organizing committee? Please write to us at info@kgcl.org.
